Cagayan de Oro City, City of Golden Friendship


Cagayan de Oro City is a first class city and the center of commerce in northern Mindanao and is the capital city in the province of Misamis Oriental. Tourism is much marketed by various travel entity in the city that offers travel guide and accommodation. Cheap hotel suites and inland resorts abound in the city that offers free city map to its guests. Like the city of Ozamis, the city has its own airport.

The “City of Golden Friendship” is the portal to northern Mindanao due to its strategic locations and existence of good transportations. It reference was created because of the welcoming hearts of its occupants which also boasts its natural appeals and tourist attractions. The city is bordered by the provinces of Bukidnon on its south, Lanao del Norte on its west, Tagoloan on the east and Macajalar Bay on its north.


BRIEF HISTORY
Around 377 AD which is known as the Neolithic Period, Himologan settlement were built eight kilometers away from the current core of the city. The settlement were own by the natives who offer tributes to the Sultan of Maguindanao, Sultan Muhammad Dipatuan Kudarat.

The declaration of the city to be the capital town in the province of Misamis Oriental were initiated by the Spanish Governor General Carlos Maria de la Torre on February 1872 and was provided with the name Cagayan de Misamis and acquired its autonomy from Spain on January 10, 1899 which was instigated by the Late Emilio Aguinaldo.

Upon the occurrence of the Philippine-American War, the city were absorbed the Americans on March 31, 1900 that triggered the battle of the town opposing American regime headed by General Nicolas Capistrano on April 7, 1900 accompanied with the fighters of the Filipino resistance. But unfortunately, the battle which named as the Battle of the Cagayan de Misamis was favorable on the Americans. But after 40 years under the American government, the city was awarded by its sovereignty in July 4, 1946.

The municipality of Cagayan de Misamis were declared as charter city last June 15, 1950 under RA 521 which was signed by the former leader of the Philippines, President Elpidio Quirino with the efforts and exertions of its congressman at the time, Emmanuel Pelaez. And later on November 22, 1983, the city was proclaimed as the highly urbanized municipality by the Ministry of Local Government.

The city of Cagayan de Oro is gifted with various tourist appeals which has also acquired several tourist originating from various places in the country and even in the world.

White Water Rafting
This white water rafting is located at Barangay Dansolihon. An escapades that offers explorers a wonderful and picturesque scene of the natural gift of environment. The trip will not only offer great experiences towards its riders but it also presents the great views of its surrounding ranging from the rocky walls of the mountain and the unexplored lush forest which is only inhabited by animals and is the resting sanctuary of monkeys.

The trip will start at its reception and will end at the shores of Cagayan de Oro. Two modes of trips are available the 3 hours trip and 6 hours trip.

Monigue Cave
A cave which can be seen at the vicinity of Barangay Mambuaya. The cave entrance is slender with water that comes from its underground stream. Upon entering in the cave, you need to submerge yourself in water furnished with body safety gadgets. Inside the cave, an amazing structures will stun your eyes such as white stalactites and stalagmites which according to study, it grows an inch for every fifty to sixty years. The mesmerizing cave also presents structures of flowstone, crystals and scenic views.


Malasag Eco-Tourism Village
Malasag Eco-Tourism Village and Gardens offers every guest and visitors and exhilarating view of its mountain ranges and city itself. Upon arriving the location, huge trees will excite your eyes for they had been there for ages and are preserved to offer thrill to travelers and protections for its environment. Within the village are the different animals which were placed in cage to keep the balance of nature.

Some ethnic groups were being housed in the place, they offer its guests an experience that will bring them to past. The villagers offers an introduction in the form of dance, a dance that portraits its life in the past.

Macahambus Adventure Park
An adventure park which can be located at Barangay Lumbia and Bayanga, 25 minutes away from the heart of the city and 10 minutes away from the city airport.

The park features a sky bridge of 120 meters long and 120 feet above the ground.

It is the spot where one of the battles against Americans was won by the Filipinos on June 4, 1900. Within the park is the Macahambus cave, an overlooking veranda, Macahambus gorge of 200 meters length.

Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club
A golf course of 18 holes and 72 par championship is modeled and designed Robert Trent Jones II International and was properly established last May 5, 1998 initiated by the former president of the republic, President Fidel V. Ramos. Available in the place is the grand driving range, clubhouse, tee houses.
