Bantayan Island
One of the paradise islands in the Philippines is the Bantayan Island, an unsullied tropical haven in Asia composed of three municipalities namely Bantayan, Madridejos & Santa Fe. These municipalities are referred to as the “Egg Basket” due to the massive supplies of eggs originating from the place that reaches a production of half a million a day, which is provided to the neighboring region particularly in the mainland of Cebu.
Bantayan is a portion of Cebu province which is located north of Cebu City and can be reached on a 4-hour bus travel from the city.
The island is admired most with its existing nature appeals like beaches. The whole portion of the island is white sand, a traveler does not need to search for a fine, sandy and exciting beaches because every beach that island offers possess all these traits that any traveler would wanted. Scuba diving and snorkeling is best enjoyed in the place since the island is not that well developed.
The island dialect is a combination of Ilongo, Waray and Cebuano which tone varies from every town.
Anybody who wanted to experience the essence of nature, Bantayan Island is the answer. Massive supplies of sea foods are seen in the place ranging from shells, crabs and fishes and is in fact dubbed as the Crab Capital of Philippines.
Local and foreign visitors appreciate the fine white sand and clear water of the ocean. Some foreigner chooses to live their lives in the island and make some investment which adds improvements on the island. The best thing that island has to offer is the untamed splendor of its natural resources.
The hospitable occupant made the island open to everybody and is visited mostly during Lenten season which produces is reference as the Lenten capital of Visayas. The holy week procession of the island is much observed by the various Filipino Christians because they wanted to experience the sincere customs of faith.
The island offers of various tastes of dishes like Filipino, Tai, Japanese and European taste which made possible by the various Filipino chief who engage in restaurant industry. The wide existence of ocean products made these cuisines ideally healthy.
The main source of living of its occupants is fishing. Opulent quantities of fish are seen in the island which is said to migrated from the belt of China sea.
BRIEF HISTORY
In 1635-1644 moros hostility frequently pester the Visayan islands. To protect the population from this hostility, watchtower and stone walls were constructed in various parts of the archipelago. These towering walls were dubbed as “Bantayan sa Hari” which denotes “Watchtowers of the King” served as sentry for the arriving pirate ship. These towers also encapsulated the convent including half portion of place.
As these hostility occurs, the tower’s name had turn into an expression as “Bantayan” which simply means watch the tower. And so the name Bantayan came into.
The influx of the first occupants of the island including its places of origin is not provided. Some says that traces of their existence are seen in Panay, some thought that the masses originated from Cebu, Leyte and Bohol.

Juagat Cave

Centuries Old Church
Among the oldest churches in the Philippines that was built in 1839 and was completed in 1893 which is made of corral stone walls. Within the church are the ancient statues of saints adorned with carvings made by the Spaniards.
